SOLD! John Lennon Artifacts Up For Auction

Fans of the late John Lennon, and particularly of his literary work, will be able to own some artifacts from his first two books soon.
More than 100 items related to 1964`s "In His Own Write" and 1965's "A Spaniard in the Works" will be auctioned June 4 by Sotheby's in New York, ranging from personal drawings to manuscripts of individual chapters. They come from the collection of Tom Maschler, who worked as the literary director of Jonathan Cape, which published the two books.
In a statement, Maschler says that, "My relationship with John Lennon was different to those I had with all the other authors I worked with over my years as a publisher. Having seen a superb sketch of his that a mutual acquaintance showed me, I met with John to suggest that he should produce...'In His Own Write.' I think had to inspire in him the confidence to write and produce the drawings."
The items will be sold in 89 lots, which are expected to sell for between $500 and $70,000 apiece. The items will be on display March 13-14 at the South By Southwest Music Conference & Festival in Austin, Texas and from March 21-25 at Sotheby's London location before the June auction.
